The name "Meer" is mentioned in Holy Quran as its in Arabic ayah in 65 "Surah Yousuf"

"وَلَمَّا فَتَحُوا مَتَاعَهُمْ وَجَدُوا بِضَاعَتَهُمْ رُدَّتْ إِلَيْهِمْ ۖ قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا مَا نَبْغِي ۖ هَٰذِهِ بِضَاعَتُنَا رُدَّتْ إِلَيْنَا ۖ وَنَمِيرُ أَهْلَنَا وَنَحْفَظُ أَخَانَا وَنَزْدَادُ كَيْلَ بَعِيرٍ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ كَيْلٌ يَسِيرٌ"

Meer in this ayah means "We will get provision for our family or food supplies"

Also, it it known that most of local people usually use "meer" as a general description when to get their food supplies.
